Milton Neighbourhood Guide

Young, fast-growing town at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment, popular with growing families

Milton has grown quickly over the last 20 years, so much of its housing is newer. Young families come for modern detached homes and townhomes, new schools and parks, and the escarpment scenery on the edge of town.

Popular neighbourhoods in Milton

  • Old Milton (downtown): Historic Main Street with older homes, shops and the farmers' market.
  • Timberlea and Dorset Park: Established, more affordable areas close to downtown.
  • Hawthorne Village: Large planned community with parks and newer family homes.
  • Beaty, Clarke and Dempsey: Popular family areas with townhomes and detached homes near schools.
  • Willmott, Ford and Harrison: Newer subdivisions in the south with modern homes and parks.
  • Cobban and Bowes: Newest growth areas with new construction.

Homes you will find

Mostly newer detached homes, semis and freehold townhomes, with a smaller number of condos and older homes near downtown.

Getting around

The Milton GO line runs weekday trains to Union Station, with GO bus service at other times. Highway 401 runs through town and Highway 407 is just south. Milton Transit connects neighbourhoods to the GO station.

Schools

Public schools are run by the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and Catholic schools by the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB). French-language schools are run by Viamonde and MonAvenir. Because Milton grew fast, some newer areas rely on portables or new schools still being built.

Things to do

Kelso Conservation Area, Rattlesnake Point, Crawford Lake, the Mattamy National Cycling Centre, Mill Pond and a busy downtown farmers' market.

Buying tips for Milton

  • Many homes are under 10 years old. Check the Tarion warranty dates and whether the seller reported any defects.
  • In new subdivisions, ask about planned schools, parks and road work nearby.
  • Train service on the Milton line is mainly weekday rush hour. Check the schedule if you plan to commute by GO.
  • Freehold townhomes can have shared driveways or easements, so read the survey carefully.
