Scarborough Neighbourhood Guide

Toronto's east end: the Bluffs, Rouge National Urban Park and some of the city's best value

Scarborough is the eastern part of the City of Toronto. It offers more detached homes and larger lots than central Toronto, the Scarborough Bluffs along Lake Ontario, Rouge National Urban Park and one of the most diverse food scenes in Canada. Because it is part of Toronto, city rules and taxes apply.

Popular neighbourhoods in Scarborough

  • The Bluffs (Cliffside, Birch Cliff and Scarborough Village): Lakeside neighbourhoods near the Bluffs and Bluffer's Park.
  • Guildwood: Quiet, leafy area near the Guild Park and Gardens and the lake.

Buying tips for Scarborough

  • Scarborough is part of Toronto, so buyers pay both the Ontario and Toronto land transfer taxes.
  • Many bungalows are great candidates for renovations, legal basement units or garden suites under Toronto's housing rules.
  • Homes close to the Bluffs may face erosion and conservation authority limits. Check before buying near the edge.
  • Areas near the new subway stations may see more demand and development as construction finishes.
