Mississauga Neighbourhood Guide

Canada's seventh largest city: lakeside villages, family suburbs and a growing downtown

Mississauga borders Toronto to the west and offers almost every kind of home, from lakefront living in Port Credit to condo towers at Square One and family subdivisions in Erin Mills and Churchill Meadows. Pearson Airport and major highways make it a practical base for commuters and frequent travellers.

Popular neighbourhoods in Mississauga

  • Port Credit: Lakeside village with a marina, restaurants and its own GO station.
  • Lorne Park and Clarkson: Large lots, mature trees and quiet streets near the lake.
  • Streetsville: Historic village main street with a small-town feel and GO access.
  • Erin Mills: Established family area with parks, trails and Erin Mills Town Centre.
  • Churchill Meadows: Newer family subdivisions with modern schools and community centres.
  • City Centre (Square One): High-rise condos close to shopping, transit and Celebration Square.
  • Meadowvale: Family-friendly area with lakes, trails and GO train service.

Homes you will find

Condos are concentrated around Square One and along Hurontario. Townhomes and semis are common across the city, and detached homes dominate areas like Lorne Park, Erin Mills, Meadowvale and Churchill Meadows.

Getting around

GO trains run on the Lakeshore West line (Port Credit, Clarkson) and the Milton line (Cooksville, Erindale, Streetsville, Meadowvale). MiWay buses cover the city, and the Hazel McCallion Line LRT is under construction along Hurontario Street, with service expected around 2028. Highways 401, 403, 410, 407 and the QEW all pass through, and Pearson Airport is next door.

Schools

Public schools are run by the Peel District School Board (PDSB) and Catholic schools by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB), with French-language schools from Viamonde and MonAvenir. The University of Toronto Mississauga campus is in the city's southwest.

Things to do

Waterfront trails and parks, Rattray Marsh, Credit River valley trails, Square One shopping, Celebration Square events and food from every corner of the world.

Buying tips for Mississauga

  • Homes near the airport can sit under flight paths. Visit at different times of day before you buy.
  • In condo-heavy City Centre, compare condo fees and reserve funds between buildings, not just prices.
  • If you plan a basement apartment, check Mississauga's Additional Residential Unit rules and permit requirements first.
  • Homes near GO stations and the future Hurontario LRT stops often hold demand well, so factor transit into resale value.
