Vaughan Neighbourhood Guide

Vaughan sits just north of Toronto and has grown into a city of its own. It offers large family homes in Woodbridge, Maple and Thornhill, estate properties in Kleinburg, and a new high-rise downtown at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, connected to Toronto by subway.

Popular neighbourhoods in Vaughan

• Woodbridge: Established family area with a strong Italian heritage and Market Lane shops.
• Maple: Family subdivisions with Maple GO station and Canada's Wonderland nearby.
• Kleinburg: Historic village with estate homes and the McMichael art gallery.

Getting around

TTC Line 1 runs to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre station, and the Barrie GO line stops at Rutherford and Maple stations. York Region Transit and Viva rapid buses run along Highway 7. Highways 400, 407 and 427 all serve the city.

Schools

Public schools are run by the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and Catholic schools by the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB), with French-language options from Viamonde and MonAvenir. Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital opened in 2021.

Buying tips for Vaughan

• Much of the VMC is pre-construction. Read the agreement, deposit structure and possible closing cost adjustments before signing.
• Some newer subdivisions have higher property taxes or local improvement charges. Check the tax bill.
• Homes near Highway 400, 407 or rail lines can have traffic noise. Visit at rush hour.
• Kleinburg and some rural areas may have heritage or conservation rules that limit changes.
